Pharmacy Technician Program


SCC's Pharmacy Technician program will prepare you for a career in retail pharmacies, hospitals, long-term care facilities and more.

Become a competent technician to assist a pharmacist within their scope of practice and perform  tasks including basic to extensive medication preparation, dosage calculations, compounding, IV admixture patient information maintenance, inventory and quality control. Students in a pharmacy lab and in local pharmacies build proficiency in pharmacy processes and procedures such as procuring, manipulating, and preparing drugs for dispensing.

Accreditation and Certification

The Pharmacy Technician is nationally accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists and the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education and is a Pharmacy Technician Certification Board Recognized Education/Training Program. Graduates are eligible to apply for South Carolina state certification after completing 1,000 work hours and passing the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam given by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board.

Upcoming Information Session Dates:

Sections are NOT mandatory, but students are strongly encouraged to attend one within the academic year in which you plan to apply to the Advanced Technician Program.  Due to limited space, these sessions are limited to 24 students. To reserve your seat, please email our Pharmacy Technician Department Chair, Carol Blanton at blantonc@sccsc.edu.

All sections are held in room 204 of the Health Sciences Building located at 850 Brisack Rd Spartanburg, SC 29303 on the Giles Campus of Spartanburg Community College.
