Early Care and Education, AAS

The Early Care and Education program offers a combination of classroom instruction and supervised hands-on experiences that prepare students for direct entry into the field of Early Care and Education. Program graduates are eligible to obtain the Level 1 SC Early Childhood Credential, Level 2 Preschool Credential, Level 2 Special Needs Credential, and Level 3 Preschool Credential, South Carolina's state-recognized ECE micro-credentials available through SC Endeavors (additional Level 1, 2, and 3 Credentials can also be earned, depending upon the student's choice of course electives). The Associate of Applied Science degree program in Early Care and Education at Spartanburg Community College is accredited by the Commission on the Accreditation of Early Childhood Higher Education Programs of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (https://www.naeyc.org/). The current accreditation term runs from March 2022 through March 2029.

Early Childhood Development Certificate

The Early Childhood Development Certificate is designed to provide early childhood educators with the knowledge and skills to create engaging learning experiences that promote the holistic social-emotional, physical, and cognitive development of young children. Completion of this Certificate qualifies the recipient to obtain the Level 1 SC Early Childhood Credential, Level 2 Preschool Credential, Level 2 Special Needs Credential, and the Level 3 Preschool Credential through SC Endeavors.

Infant and Toddler Certificate

The Infant Toddler Certificate is designed to provide early childhood educators working with children birth through three years old training related to experiences in growth and development, curriculum issues, and practical classroom experience. Completion of this Certificate qualifies the recipient to obtain the Level 1 SC Early Childhood Credential, Level 2 Infant/Toddler Credential, and Level 2 Family Child Care Credential through SC Endeavors.

Teacher Education, AAS

The target audience for the Associate in Applied Science with a major in Teacher Education is students who aspire to become teacher assistants or paraprofessionals, as well as those planning to transfer to a bachelor’s level program to pursue teacher licensure. This program will focus on training educators to enter the PK-12 education setting. The Teacher Education associate degree will provide students with their first two years of educational courses, offering a start in the field of education. After completing their associate’s degree at SCC, students can transfer to a four-year institution for their bachelor’s degree through SCC’s University Transfer pathway.
