Why Chasers Love SCC

Real people. Real experiences. One Chaser community.

I love connecting with colleagues who bring passion and purpose to their work and are committed to helping others succeed. Being part of that journey and seeing the transformative impact it has on people's lives is fulfilling.

SCC’s connection to the community is what makes it special. Whenever I’m out around Spartanburg wearing SCC gear, people ask if I’m a student. When I tell them I’m an employee, they share their SCC story, whether they attended, are currently taking classes, have a family member enrolled, or hope to enroll someday. Those conversations serve as a constant reminder of the positive impact SCC has on many lives.

The Chaser community is more than a network of associations. It empowers growth for those who choose to embrace it.

What I love most about working at SCC is seeing the value we bring to our community. Whether we’re educating students, collaborating with Spartanburg employers on larger initiatives, or helping growing companies through our enterprise campuses, we’re making a meaningful impact in our community.

What makes SCC special is the life-changing impact we can have on our students. In just a year or two, a student can be on the path to a thriving career or become the first in their family to graduate from college.

You will find your person—or your people—in the Chaser community. You’ll always have someone in your corner, and you’ll never have to wonder if you belong.

What I love most about SCC is the people and the opportunities this College provides. I came to work here when I was 23, thinking I would stay for only a couple of years, but I grew to love the people and the work I was doing.

SCC has also given me opportunities to grow personally and professionally. I learned to weld through the welding program and earned both my general contractor and master electrician licenses here. I am not only an employee but also an example of what SCC helps people achieve. I have truly been able to dream it, chase it and live it.

It has been incredible to witness how much the College has grown and changed over the past 30 years. I am excited about SCC’s future and hope to be here to see the new buildings and opportunities still to come.

Admissions Counselor – Giles Campus

He is seated in a black office chair, facing the camera, with a computer mouse and paperwork on the desk in front of him. The background features vertical window blinds, an office organizer tray, a potted green plant, and office furniture.

I love playing a small role in the development of our student's.  It is an absolute joy to help students start college, especially those who have previously felt that college wasn't for them.

What makes SCC special to me is when I am out in the community of Spartanburg, and I see students that I have enrolled.  Makes me feel like I am actually serving the community.

We have one of the best schools in the country, and the SCC family will go above and beyond to help students reach their goals.

What I love most about working at SCC, is that I have never been treated like I didn't belong. The work culture I've personally experienced has been positive. I love that I am afforded the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of students.

The strong commitment to the success of the students and surrounding communities is important.

That there is a shared commitment to student excellence and success in a supportive environment that is inclusive of everyone.

The thing I love most about working at SCC is knowing that the work I do will have a positive and meaningful impact on the trajectory of someone’s life.

SCC is special because of its commitment to making a positive impact—not only on its students, but also on the communities it serves.

SCC values strong leadership and invests in developing leaders from within. By growing and empowering our leaders, the college is better positioned to continue expanding its impact and creating meaningful change in the communities we serve.

What I love most about working at Spartanburg Community College is seeing students discover what they are capable of and helping them turn that potential into a meaningful career. SCC is special because our faculty and staff do more than teach, work together to create opportunities, build partnerships, and help students overcome barriers to success. Being part of the Chaser community means belonging to a college where people genuinely care about one another and where new ideas are encouraged when they can improve students’ lives. At SCC, we do not simply prepare students for their next class; we help them build a better future for themselves, their families, and our community.

A medium shot of a smiling woman with long brown hair and glasses, wearing a black and white striped V-neck sweater, standing in front of library bookshelves filled with books. I've only been here for a short time; I started in late June. However, in that time, I've been blown away by the different programs and opportunities for students. SCC has something for everyone, and it provides the support students need to finish successfully.
