Spartanburg Community College Reports Growth in Enrollment, Student Achievement, and Revenue

SPARTANBURG, SC – Spartanburg Community College (SCC) continues to experience significant growth across enrollment, student achievement, workforce development, and financial performance, positioning the College to meet increasing educational and workforce demands throughout the Upstate and beyond.

During his report to the Spartanburg County Commission for Technical and Community Education, SCC President Dr. Michael Mikota highlighted the College's continued momentum, including enrollment growth, increasing credential attainment, strong graduate outcomes, and strategic investments designed to support the region's future workforce needs.

"As our region continues to grow, Spartanburg Community College remains focused on providing opportunities that lead to student success, workforce readiness, and economic prosperity," said Dr. Mikota. "Our commitment is not only to help students enroll, but to help them complete their programs, enter meaningful careers, and contribute to the continued growth of our communities."

SCC has experienced enrollment growth compared to many of its peer institutions while maintaining a strong focus on student persistence, completion, and post-graduate success. The College continues to see significant increases in the number of credentials awarded annually, with awards nearly doubling over the past decade—from approximately 850 credentials in 2012 to nearly 1,600 today.

Recent graduate outcome data reflects that success. More than 90 percent of SCC graduates are either employed or continuing their education following graduation. Additionally, programs requiring professional licensure achieved a placement rate exceeding 94 percent, demonstrating the College's continued commitment to academic quality and workforce preparation.

The College's financial performance also reflects its continued growth and strategic stewardship. As of May 31, 2026, SCC had generated approximately $77.9 million in revenue, exceeding budget projections and representing an increase of more than $6.4 million compared to the previous year. The Commission also approved an $80 million operating budget for fiscal year 2026-27, an increase of $7 million over the current fiscal year.

The approved budget includes increased investments in workforce development, academic programs, facilities, and strategic initiatives that support student success and regional economic growth. Workforce Development funding is projected to increase significantly, reflecting growing employer demand for training and credentialing opportunities across the region.

To address critical workforce shortages, SCC continues to expand educational pathways in high-demand fields. This fall, the College will welcome an additional 175 students into its nursing program while continuing to strengthen programs in healthcare, advanced manufacturing, construction, welding, engineering, and emerging technologies.

The College is also advancing several long-term initiatives, including a new Academic Master Plan and Strategic Enrollment Plan, both designed to support SCC's strategic vision through 2030 and ensure the institution remains responsive to the evolving needs of students, employers, and the communities it serves.

"Our success is measured by the impact we make in the lives of our students and throughout our service area," Dr. Mikota said. "We are proud of the progress we have made, but we are even more excited about the opportunities ahead as we continue to expand access, strengthen workforce partnerships, and support economic development across the region."

As SCC prepares for the Fall 2026 semester, the College remains focused on sustaining enrollment growth, expanding workforce training opportunities, and delivering high-quality educational experiences that prepare students for success in an increasingly dynamic economy.
