Spartanburg Community College Welcomes Dr. William Brothers as Chief Academic Officer

SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Spartanburg Community College (SCC) is proud to announce the appointment of Dr. William Brothers as the College’s Chief Academic Officer, bringing more than 15 years of higher education leadership and a wealth of administrative and instructional experience to the role.

Dr. Brothers joins SCC from Greenville Technical College, where he most recently served as Dean for the School of Engineering Technology and Professional Studies. During his tenure, he was recognized with the President’s Award for Excellence, honoring his outstanding leadership and dedication to student success.

“We are honored to welcome Dr. William Brothers to the Spartanburg Community College Chasers Family,” said Dr. Michael Mikota, President of Spartanburg Community College.  “Dr. Brothers’ distinguished leadership and commitment to academic excellence will strengthen our community and advance impactful innovation in higher education and workforce development.” 

Prior to his service in South Carolina, Dr. Brothers held a series of progressive leadership positions within the North Carolina Community College System, including faculty member, dean, and ultimately Vice President for Financial and Administrative Services/Chief Financial Officer.

Dr. Brothers holds a Doctorate in Business Administration, an Educational Specialist degree, and master’s degrees in Business Administration, Entrepreneurship, and Human Resource Development, along with a bachelor’s degree in Accounting. He is also a holder of the Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification and a graduate and former facilitator of the North Carolina Community College Leadership Program.

Beyond his professional achievements, Dr. Brothers is deeply family-oriented and proudly shares life with his wife, Chelsea, and their five children.
