Getting Involved on Campus: Why It Matters
Are you thinking about joining clubs, helping out, or being part of campus events at Spartanburg Community College (SCC)? That’s fantastic! Getting involved is a big part of your college experience. It helps you meet friends, learn new skills, and feel part of something special. Here’s why being involved matters, and how it enhances your time at SCC.
Make Friends & Build Community
College life is more than classes, homework, and sleepless nights. It’s also about connections. SCC’s Student Life office organizes events at the Student Hub and through other fun gatherings tied to holidays and seasons. There’s always something going on—ice‑cream socials, movie nights, group games, and more. When you join in, you’ll meet people who like the same things you do. That’s how friendships start!

Join Student Organizations That Fit You
SCC has lots of clubs and groups so you can explore your interests. Here are some examples:
- SCC Student Government
- American Sign Language Club
- Chasers of God Gospel Choir
- D&D Club
- Phi Theta Kappa (honor society)
- National Society of Leadership and Success
- Call Me MiSTER (mentoring future teachers)
Whether you like music, leadership, service, or community, there’s something for you. Joining a club helps you learn teamwork, event planning, and leadership, which are all skills that look great on a resume!

Grow as a Leader with Student Ambassadors
Do you want to help SCC shine? Consider becoming a Chaser Ambassador. Ambassadors welcome new students, give campus tours, and help at events. You’ll build leadership, communication, and confidence.
Chaser Ambassadors are currently enrolled students selected to represent SCC to prospective students and the community throughout the academic year. Ambassadors assist the Recruiting Office with recruitment efforts such as campus tours and community events. Chaser Ambassadors are recognized for their outstanding service and commitment both to the college and to the community.
Serve the Community & Make a Difference
Helping others is part of SCC’s heart. Student Life encourages involvement in service projects like Our Chase Together, the Rick Teal Walk, and collecting toiletries and other supplies for those in need. When students help the community, they feel good—and make a real impact. It’s a great way to give back and grow in compassion.
Discover Events
SCC makes it easy to find fun things to do. MySCC Portal shows a calendar of campus events and deadlines, so you never miss the next gathering. Plus, SCC connects you to events in the wider Spartanburg area—like theater shows, concerts, festivals, and outdoor adventures. You’ll feel like part of both campus and community.
Also don’t miss out on all the cool information on SCC’s social media and in the Weekly Wag—SCC’s weekly student newsletter.
Improve Academics with Tutoring & Career Help
Getting involved includes using SCC’s support services. The TLC Tutoring Center offers help with homework, writing, and computer skills. Academic advisors and Success Coaches help you choose classes and stay on track. Plus, Career Services helps you prepare for jobs—resume help, interview skills, and career fairs. Students who are active in clubs and use these services feel more confident and succeed more.
