Beyond the Classroom: SCC’s Chaser's Pantry

Resources

At Spartanburg Community College, we believe in taking care of the whole student—not just academically, but personally, too. For many students, the road to graduation comes with real-life challenges. That’s why we’re proud to offer services that go beyond the classroom—like our on-campus food pantry.

Pantry staff talk in the pantry

For Azaria Lattimore-Greene, a 2025 graduate of the Medical Assisting program, the pantry became more than just a place to get groceries. It became a source of comfort, strength, and hope.

“The pantry was a lifeline for me and my family,” Azaria shared. “It not only provided essential food items but also offered a sense of security.”

Like many students, Azaria faced tough times where affording food wasn’t always easy. When she walked through the pantry doors for the first time, she didn’t know what to expect. But what she found was more than shelves of canned goods and snacks—she found people who cared.

“The kindness shown by the volunteers made every visit a warm, welcoming experience, which lifted my spirits in moments of hardship.”

More than just physical nourishment, the pantry offered something even more powerful: a sense of community. Azaria felt seen, valued, and supported. And that support gave her the strength to keep going, even when life got hard.

The SCC Pantry is available to all currently enrolled students. Whether you need food for yourself or for your family, you are welcome to stop by. There are no complicated forms, no judgment—just support. Our staff and volunteers work hard to make sure the pantry is stocked with shelf-stable food, snacks, and hygiene products. It’s a space built on dignity, compassion, and trust.

For students balancing school, work, and family responsibilities, a service like this can make all the difference. It’s not just about getting through the day—it’s about knowing someone is in your corner, cheering you on.

Now, as Azaria approaches graduation, she looks back with deep gratitude. Her experience with the pantry didn’t just help her in the moment—it shaped her future, too.

“The pantry has not only helped me through tough times but has inspired me to give back whenever I can. The kindness I received has motivated me to pay it forward and contribute to others in need, just as I was helped.”

Stories like Azaria’s remind us why SCC exists. We’re not just here to hand out diplomas—we’re here to walk alongside our students, to meet them where they are, and to help them build the future they deserve.

We’re proud of Azaria, and proud of every student who has leaned on our community resources to move forward with courage and determination. The pantry may be a small space on campus, but it holds something powerful: hope.

If you or someone you know is in need, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re here. And we care. Find more information on Chaser’s Pantry here: https://www.sccsc.edu/students/student-life/pantry/.
