Registered v.s. Non-Registered Apprenticeships

Registered Apprenticeships

SCC works in partnership with Apprenticeship Carolina to support the development of fully registered apprenticeship programs. These programs are:

  • Recognized by the U.S. Department of Labor
  • Include structured standards, wage progression, and national certification
  • Ideal for employers seeking formalized, long-term training pipelines
  • Supported by the statewide Apprenticeship Carolina team

Unregistered Apprenticeships

  • Offer more flexibility for local needs and timelines
  • Designed collaboratively with SCC and employers
  • Ideal for smaller businesses or specialized roles

Whether you’re seeking a nationally recognized credential or a flexible local training solution, SCC has an apprenticeship program to match your needs. Our team will help you determine which model works best for you, based on your goals and timeline.

How the Program Works

  1. Employer identifies roles they want to fill with apprentices
  2. SCC helps design a customized apprenticeship plan
  3. Students apply for open positions and are selected by the employer
  4. Apprentices begin working part-time while enrolled in related SCC courses
  5. Progress is tracked, and support is provided throughout the experience
