Learn and Earn at SCC

The Michelin Manufacturing Scholars (MMS) Program offers an exceptional “Learn and Earn” opportunity for those interested in a great career in manufacturing with Michelin! You’ll earn a college credential and you’ll get hands-on training through PAID part-time work at the Michelin Spartanburg manufacturing plant throughout the semester. Tuition, books and even the cost of your fees are covered! Program features:

Intentionally designed curriculum that aligns with industry needs

  • Paid work-based learning at Michelin, 25 hours per week 
  • Full Michelin scholarship that covers tuition, fees and books for the 10-week program
  • Nine credit hours that, upon successful completion, lead to a Manufacturing Operators Certificate from SCC and MAY lead to an offer of full-time employment, provided that all performance and hiring criteria are met.

To be considered, applicants must:

  • Be 18 years of age or older with a valid ID
  • Have a high school diploma or GED
  • Have scored a Bronze or better level in WorkKeys (if already completed) or WIN testing (contact SCWorks at (864) 764-1966 to schedule)
  • Have a mechanical aptitude, ability and interest
  • Must be able to perform physical manufacturing jobs and stand for 12 hours
  • Have reliable transportation (now and ongoing) and a reasonable commuting distance (training and potential future employment will be at the Michelin facility in Spartanburg
  • Have a personal/family situation that enables commitment to the program and ultimately full-time employment that will include swing shifts
  • Be able to pass required drug screenings and physicals

MMS Application Checklist:

Bring to Information Session: 

  • Driver’s License or State Issued ID
  • Official High School Transcript or GED scores
  • WorkKeys or WIN scores - Bronze or higher

Any students who identify as DACA are ALSO required to submit:

  • Employment Authorization Document (EAD card)
  • Social Security Document (card)

Will be completed in Information Session:

  • SCC Application for Enrollment
  • Michelin Application for Employment
  • SCC Residency Certification Form
  • SCC Citizenship Residency Affidavit
  • SCC New Student Orientation Completed
