PPAT Certificate: Path to Your Law Enforcement Career
If you are interested in a career in law enforcement, SCC now offers a Police Pre-Academy Training - PPAT - certificate, providing a simpler path to becoming a law enforcement Class-1 officer in the state of South Carolina. PPAT certificate can be completed in only ONE 15-week semester, where you will learn basic and introductory law enforcement concepts, training, tactics and procedures. You'll take two courses at a time and complete each set of courses in only 7.5 weeks.
The PPAT certificate courses are the first step in your law enforcement career. Once these courses are passed, you may secure employment with a SC law enforcement agency, pass the cumulative exam and physical assesment test through SCCJA, attend 8-week SCCJA in Columbia, SC and then begin your career as a Certified Law Enforcement Officer in South Carolina.
How to Enroll in PPAT
PPAT certificate training begins January 10 and includes two 7.5-week terms. To enroll in PPAT certificate program, you must first apply to SCC. Once your application is accepted, the requirements for PPAT include:
- Be US Citizen
- Be a high school graduate/equivalency
- Successfully pass a criminal background check
- Be at least 20 years of age to enter the program
