    Enjoy a career working in daycare

    Early Care programs are paths for students entering the field of early childhood education as daycare teachers, teachers assistants, and directors of daycare programs. The programs are also designed to upgrade job skills of individuals already employed in the field. Early Care offers transfer to select universities to pursue a bachelor's degree.

    Become a Teacher: Start at SCC to Transfer

    Teacher Education will start your path to becoming a teacher at SCC! After completing your Associate Degree at SCC through the University Transfer program, you are able to transfer to a four-year college or university for your Bachelor's Degree. SCC offers Associate in Arts (AA) and Associate in Sciences (AS) degrees with electives specific to the field of education you choose.     • Early Childhood Education (Certified Teacher - PreK to third grade)

    How do I begin? Meet with an Advisor:

    Advisors who specialize in Teacher Education at SCC will help you plan your core courses at SCC as well as ensure you are taking classes that will TRANSFER to your chosen four-year institution. Find an advisor by emailing TeacherEd@sccsc.edu. 

    Courses Specific to Education Majors:

    SCC offers courses specifically designed for education majors, ensuring ease of transfer and preparation to continue at a four-year institution.

    Introduction to Teaching: School in Communities (EDU 230)
    Three Mathematics courses for Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle School or Special Needs Education students (MAT 211, 212 and 215)
    Praxis Preparation: Praxis Core Exam required for entrance into all university and education programs in South Carolina.

    Teacher Education Club:

    The Teacher Education Club at SCC provides another opportunity to prepare for your career in education. Each year the club adopts a classroom or grade level and provides school supplies and books for them. We have also provided tutoring for those students. At club meetings we discuss various topics in education and offer training on specific technology used in classrooms. Each year we tour four-year institutions and meet with their education faculty for Q&A sessions. Email TeacherEd@sccsc.edu for more information.

    Call Me Mister:

    The mission of the Call Me MiSTER mentor program is a university transfer option, designed to increase the pool of available teachers from a broader, more diverse background particularly among South Carolina's lowest performing elementary schools.
