There's always a need for nurses, and SCC's nursing program is a strong first step
towards joining the rapidly growing field of healthcare. After completing one of our
two nursing programs here at Spartanburg Community College, you can supply your community
with the medical care, help and the healing that they deserve.
SCC offers both an Associate Degree in Applied Science- Nursing (ADN) and a Diploma of Applied Science- Nursing (PN, or Practical Nurse). Both the ADN and PN programs are offered in-person during the day and clinical sites are utilized in Cherokee, Spartanburg and Union counties.
While many may think that a four-year degree is required to receive a nursing license, SCC is here to remind you that that is not the case. Upon completing either of these programs followed by the successful completion of either the NCLEX-RN or NCLEX-PN licensure exams, either a Registered Nurse or Practical Nursing License will be granted respectfully. After students receive either their RN or PN license, they may then practice as a Registered or Practical Nurse.
While SCC is an open admissions college, our acceptance into the Nursing program is by selection. Any applications submitted for the ADN and PN programs will be reviewed and evaluated on an impartial basis. Even if you meet our minimum requirements, you are not guaranteed admission into the program. Once students have been accepted into one of our two nursing programs, and have completed the necessary pre-requisite courses, either program can be completed within 2 years. What Kind of Nurse Are You?
If you choose our ADN program, after completion students will be eligible to sit for NCLEX-RN to become a Licensed Registered Nurse (RN).

Regardless of which route you take, both programs offer a lot to learn including valuable hands-on experience. The vision of SCC's Nursing Program is to help our students build the needed framework for professional development by maintaining continuous educational excellence and high personal standards throughout their time in the program.
Through our nursing program students will gain comprehensive critical and technical skills within their health sciences field through clinical rotations in local affiliated hospitals, clinics, physicians' offices, health care facilities and lab simulations. Not only does good practice make great nurses, but after your time at SCC you'll be well on your way to becoming a medical professional.
By the time you finish up your degree you'll have a whole new set of skills and medical knowledge! You'll be able to:
- Demonstrate proficiency in psychomotor nursing interventions.
- Utilize the conceptual framework of the nursing process to provide client-oriented care.
- Integrate critical thinking skills into client care.
- Demonstrate use of effective communication skills.
- Demonstrate professional and ethical self-accountability.
After finishing up your LPN degree, you'll be able to:
- Demonstrate proficiency in the performance of nursing skills and medication administration within the scope of practice.
- Demonstrate reasonable clinical judgements using the nursing process to provide culturally competent client-centered care across the lifespan.
- Demonstrate the use of effective communication.
- Collaborate as a member of the interprofessional team in the management of patient and family-centered care in the health of communities and populations.
- Demonstrate professionalism and ethical self-accountability.
- Use evidence-based practice to advocate for patients and families across the lifespans.
