The “Jimmy Painter Horticulture Scholarship” was created, not only in honor of Mr. Painter’s contributions as horticulture department head for 36 years, but also as a means of benefiting the horticulture industry in our community by providing an opportunity for future horticulturalists to achieve their educational goals and objectives.
This scholarship is designed to allow anyone with permanent residency outside of Spartanburg and Cherokee counties (including out of state) to pay in-county tuition rates if awarded this foundation scholarship.
With an average of 20-30 students a year that are either out of county or out of state...Your contributions of any amount can have a life changing experience on the life of a future horticulturist and SCC graduate.Suggested donations: Azalea - $50, Tea Olive - $100, Oak - $500 and Magnoia - $1000. All academic scholarships are
administered through the Spartanburg Community College Foundation and
the SCC Financial Aid Office. Selection of recipients is made by the
Spartanburg Community College Scholarship Committee (except in the case
where an established set of guidelines provide for a special selection
committee). Horticulture scholarships are listed below - application for 2018-2019 will be available during Summer 2018 term, so please check back for the online application.
Richard and Shirley Gage Brazilian Friendship Scholarship Full-time in a horticulture program with a minimum 2.0 GPA. The Piedmont Interstate Fair Horticultural Scholarship Full-time in the associate degree in horticulture program with a minimum 2.75 GPA. Financial need is an award requirement and student must be a resident of Cherokee, Laurens, Spartanburg, or Union County in S.C, or of Polk or Rutherford County in N.C
