The U.S. Department of Commerce on Friday announced that its Economic Development Administration is awarding $1.1 million to Spartanburg Community College to help build the Center for Advanced Manufacturing and Industrial Technologies, which will offer workforce training in several areas of manufacturing. The new facility will be in Cherokee County.
The project is expected to create 84 jobs and generate about $20 million in private investment.
The federal dollars will help fund construction of the new facility, which will include nine flexible lab and classroom spaces for training in welding, computer numeric control machine tool technology, and mechatronics, including automated manufacturing and robotics, according to the Economic Development Administration.
