Your Responsibility as a Student at SCC

At SCC we believe in encouraging you as a student to reach your highest potential, stressing your responsibility in taking an active role in your own learning, growth and development.

As part of this responsibility, you are reminded to check the SCC Portal on a regular basis to receive important information and to utilize WebAdvisor to access your personal account and other important information, including registering for classes, viewing and requesting transcripts, entering information changes, printing class schedules, viewing and printing grades (SCC does not mail grades), accessing information about your financial aid status/account balances, and contacting your advisor.

Student Code
As a student, you are a member of the community at large and the academic community and are therefore subject to obligations that accrue by virtue of this membership. By the same token, students are also subject to all laws, so you need to be familiar with the Student Code for SCC, which is based on the Student Code for the SC Technical College System, found in your Student Planner and Handbook (download a PDF from our publications library). Following are two policies, in particular, that you should be aware of:

Alcohol and Drugs Policy
SCC students are not allowed to possess, use or distribute on campus or at off-campus affiliated sites any narcotics, dangerous or unlawful drugs as defined by the laws of the United States or the state of South Carolina. Also, students cannot possess, use or distribute on campus or at off-campus affiliated sites any beverage containing alcohol. Each student receives a brochure concerning activities and services that the college provides to assist students who may encounter problems related to drug or alcohol abuse.

Plagiarism Policy
SCC expects every member of the College community to support, promote, and enforce academic integrity, which is fundamental to the mission of the College. One important responsibility is understanding the seriousness of plagiarism, which is not tolerated at SCC (view informative matrix regarding SCC policy for plagiarism (view informative matrix regarding SCC policy for plagiarism).
