SCC Success Network
Success Network is an academic support program at Spartanburg Community College that offers a variety of services and activities to assist SCC students in reaching their academic and career goals. The goals of Success Network are to help students stay in school, graduate with college degrees, and continue their education by transferring to four-year colleges and universities. To help students succeed academically, Success Network services and activities focus on students' individual learning needs. Success Network not only helps students succeed at the associate degree level but also offers a variety of transfer-related services to encourage students to further their education by transferring to four-year colleges and universities.
Success Network Services
To help students reach their goals, Success Network offers academic and career-related services free of charge.
-
Tutoring – One-on-one tutoring and/or small group tutoring provide students with additional opportunities to learn course material. Students who are assigned a tutor meet with their tutors weekly to increase their understanding of course material and improve their academic performance.
-
Assistance with study skills – Study skills workshops, one-on-one academic counseling sessions, and study skills inventories help students develop their skills and improve their academic performance. Examples of study skills topics with which we assist students are test preparation, reading strategies, note-taking, time management, and test anxiety.
-
Assistance with career goals – Career development workshops and career counseling services help student learn about specific careers and develop valuable skills such as resume-writing and job interviewing.
-
Assistance with transfer planning – Success Network offers individualized transfer planning sessions, tours of nearby four-year college campuses, and transfer workshops.
-
Peer mentoring – Often students can learn a lot from their fellow classmates. For that reason, we provide students the opportunity to “learn the ropes” of being a student at SCC by matching them with fellow experienced and successful Success Network students. Emphasis is placed on study skills and increasing awareness and utilization of campus resources.
-
Cultural activities – To assist our students in increasing their cultural awareness, Success Network sponsors several cultural activities each year. Activities vary from trips to museums, state parks, concerts and plays to on-campus presentations by guest speakers.
-
Success Network Club – Club meetings are informal gatherings where students can interact with fellow Success Network members. Club members serve the Spartanburg community by volunteering with community service projects each semester.
-
Financial/economic literacy services - Success Network provides workshops, referrals, a resource directory, connection to community providers and computer-based instruction to help you increase your understanding of your personal finances and global economic issues.
