ATTENTION ALL STUDENTS!!!
2012-2013 Spartanburg Community College Foundation Scholarships
Each year Spartanburg Community College Foundation offers students compete for a variety of scholarhips that are funded by the Spartanburg Community College Foundation.  In 2011-2012, the SCC Foundation awarded over $20,000 in scholarships to Spartaburg Community College students.  The availability and amount of these scholarships vary from year to year depending of the amount of funds donated.  The scholarships are awarded primarily on the basis of academic achievement, leadership qualities, community activites, honors, awards and financial need as determined by federal regulations. 
 
There are over 30 different scholarships with a variety of scholarship criteria.  For a complete listing of the scholarships being offered and the application, click hereApplication deadline is July 2, 2012.
 
The 2012 AES Engineers Scholarship
The consulting firm of AES Engineers is committed to continuing support of higher education by providing scholarships to deserving students.  To be eligible, the student needs to answer one of the essay questions that they will find on their site at http://www.aesengineers.com/scholarships.htm
 
Scholarships will be awarded based on character as determined by evaluating the essays that are submitted.
 
Deadline for entry is October 5, 2012
 
The Abbott and Fenner Scholarship Awards 2012
This scholarship is available to all high school juniors and seniors, as well as, all students currently registered in any accredited post secondary institution.  To apply for this scholarship you will need to write an essay on the following topic:  "What was the most difficult time in your life, and why?  How did your perspective on life change as a result of this difficulty?"  Your essay should be between 500 and 1000 words.  Submissions must be sent via email at:  scholarships@abbottandfenner.com.

American Welding Society District Scholarship Program
The American Welding Society (AWS) Foundation is dedicated to meeting the needs for education and research in the field of welding and related joining technologies.  The AWS District Scholarship Program is available to students enrolled in a welding related educational or training program.  The deadline is March 1 for the fall 2012 District Scholarship Application

Army Emergency Relief
2012-2013 MG James Ursano Scholarship Program
The Army Emergency Relief (AER) is a private non-profit organization with the primary mission of providing financial assistance to soldiers and their dependents in time of valid emergency need.  The MG James Ursano Scholarship Program was established in 1976 as a secondary mission to help Army families with undergraduate college expenses for their dependent children.
 
Children of soldiers on active duty, children of retired soldiers, or children of soldiers who died while on active duty or in a retired status are eligible to apply.  Additional eligibility criteria and the application can be found by clicking here.  The deadline for submitting application is April 2, 2012.
 
The Vergene Collums Scholarship
The Spartanburg Breakfast Business and Professional Women are pleased to announce that applications are being accepted for 2012 scholarships.  Breakfast BPW offers scholarships to women with preference given to students age 25 years or older who have financial need and who are seeking education for entry, re-entry or advancement with the workforce. 
 
Applicants should reside in Spartanburg County.  The deadline for 2012 applications is March 23, 2012.  Applications are available in the financial aid office or you can download a PDF version by clicking here.
 
B. Davis Scholarship
This $1000 scholarship is available to all high school juniors and seniors, as well as, all students currently registered in any post secondary institution.  To apply for this scholarship you will need to write an essay on the following topic.  Discuss, in 1000 words or less, how your education has contributed to who you are today, or how it will affect who you will become.
 
Your submissions must be sent by email to awards@studentawardsearch.com by May 28, 2012.
 
2012 Grainger Tools for Tomorrow Scholarship Program
Grainger Tools for Tomorrow scholarship program has helped technical education students across the country realize their educational goals.  The scholarship recognizes 2 outstanding students at Spartanburg Community College with $2,000 scholarships and customized Westward toolkits upon successful completion of the student's technical education program.
 
Applicants must be United States citizens or legal residents entering their final year at Spartanburg Community College seeking a certification or degree in automated manufacturing technology, automotive technology, electronic engineering technology, HVAC, industrial electricity, industrial repair, machine tool technology, mechatronics, or welding.
 
The Grainger Tools for Tomorrow scholarship program is military friendly.  Veterans honorably separated from the U.S. Armed Forces:  Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines or Navy are strongly encouraged to apply.
 
All applicants must provide the following to the SCC Financial Aid Office: 
  • Letter of recommendation from professor, teacher or advisor;
  • Transcript demonstrating GPA of 3.0 or higher;
  • 200-300 words on why the student chose to study technical education, how their achievements and/or leadership roles have helped them grow individually and their future goals within the technical field.
  • A list of clubs, activities, accomplishments, leadership roles held and years involved, incluing those related to their field of student or military job experience.

Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation
The Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation is the nations oldest and largest need-based scholarship organization supporting U.S. military families.  Since 1962, the foundation has provided over 26,000 scholarships valued at more than $65 million including nearly $5 million to over 1,600 students in 2011-2012.
 
To be eligible, applicants must be the son or daughter of one of the following:
  • Active Duty or Reserve U.S. Marine who has served at least 90 days
  • Veteran U.S. Marine who has received an honorable discharge, medical discharge, was wounded, or was killed while serving in the U.S. Marine Corps
  • Active Duty or Reserve U.S. Navy Corpsman who is serving, or has served with a U.S. Marine unit
  • Veteran U.S. Navy Corpsman who has served with a U.S. Marine unit and has received an honorable discharge, medical discharge, was wounded, or was killed in the U.S. Navy
Additionally, applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements:
  • Planning to attend an accredited undergraduate college or vocational/technical institution in the upcoming academic year.
  • A maximum family adjusted gross income for the 2011 tax year that does not exceed $90,000.  Non taxable allowances are not included in determining adjusted gross income.
  • A GPA of at least 2.0.
  • Must be pursuing a first bachelor's degree or technical certificate.
Additional scholarships available for students who are the children of Marines killed in the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 or killed in combat since that day.  The Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation administers scholarship programs of several other Marine Corps associations that offer scholarships to the grandchildren of their members.  For more information regarding the Marine Corps Scholarship program and to apply visit www.mcsf.orgDeadline to apply is March 1, 2012.

National Federation of the Blind 2012 Scholarship Program
To recognize achievement by blind scholars, the National Federation of the Blind annually offers blind college students in the United States the opportunity to win one of thirty national scholarships worth from $3000 to $12,000.
 
All applicants for these scholarships:
  • must be legally blind in both eyes, and
  • must be residing in the United States, and
  • must be pursuing or planning to pursue a full-time, postsecondary course of student in a degree program at a United State institution in the 2012 scholastic year, and
  • must participate in the entire NFB national convention and in all of its scheduled scholarhsip program activities.
In addition to a scholarship, each winner will receive assistance to attend the 2012 National Federation of the Blind Annual Convention in July, providing an excellent opportunity for high-level networking with active blind persons in many different professions and occupations.

NursingHomeAbuse.net Scholarship for 2012-2013
NursingHomeAbuse.net has created a scholarship for applicants who are exclusively pursuing careers that will help combat nursing home abuse.  This $5000 scholarship is meant to assist with non-tuition related college expenses, which could include:  rent, childcare, travel/gas, books/supplies, utilities, groceries, etc.  U.S. citizens who are currently enrolled in post-secondary institutions, already receiving some type of financial aid, and getting a degree in nursing, social work, psychology, or healthcare administration are eligible to apply.

Off to College Scholarship Sweepstakes
SunTrust is please to offer the Off To College Scholarship Sweepstakes where students can win a $1000 scholarship for education expenses at an accredited college. 
 
If you are a high school senior planning to attend college or a current college student who will be continuing their undergraduate studies in the fall 2012, you are eligible to enter this sweepstakes.  Fifteen drawings will be held and one winner will be chosen every two weeks from October 28, 2011 through May 11, 2012.
 
 
The Jeannette Rankin Women's Scholarship Fund
Since 1978, Jeannette Rankin Women's Scholarship Fund has awarded scholarships to help over 500 women across the United States attend college.  The application cycle for 2012 is now open.  An applicant for the JRF scholarship must be:
  • A woman, age 35 or older.
  • A U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident of the United States.
  • Enrolled in, or accepted to, a regionally or ACICS accredited school.
  • Pursuing a technical or vocational education, an associate's degree or a first bachelor's degree.
  • Low-income based on JRF's low-income guidelines.

The John F. Smith (JFS) Scholarship
The AYES manufacturing partners, in recognition of the vision, commitment and dedication of the founder of Automotive Youth Educational Systems (AYES), established the John F. Smith, Jr. (JFS) Scholarship Award.  The JFS award was established to support continuing automotive education for AYES students in an approved post-secondary or related program at a college or university.
 
Eligible students must:
  • Be a graduating AYES senior;
  • Have successfully completed an AYES internship;
  • Plan to pursue a career in the automotive, diesel, or collision technical field
Each school year, AYES students that meet all AYES program requirements will be eligible to apply for a two-year scholarship in the amount of $5000 and one JFS Scholarship will be awarded per participating AYES OEM partner.  Applications for the 2012 JFS Scholarship will be accepted through February 29, 2012.  Click here for more information and to apply.
