Early Childhood Development Programs

The Early Childhood Development (ECD) Programs are courses of study for students entering the field of early childhood education as daycare teachers, teachers’ assistants, and directors of daycare programs. The programs are also designed to upgrade job skills of individuals already employed in the field.

As an ECD student, you will:

  • Learn how children grow and learn and why they behave the way they do
  • Develop the skills necessary to plan and implement educational activities for children
  • Learn the positive methods of working with young children that will enhance their physical, mental, emotional and social development

As a trained early childhood teacher, you'll help children enter grade school prepared and eager to learn. The federal and state governments, as well as SCC, recognize the importance of preschool education and the need for specialists in this field. A graduate will be qualified to work in head start centers, child development centers, day care centers, nursery schools, kindergartens, elementary schools, and family and group day care homes.

Transfer seamlessly to other colleges and universities
SCC’s NAEYC accredited ECD programs have signed articulation agreements with several South Carolina colleges and universities that allow students who complete an associate degree in either AAS.G-ACCM or AAS.G-INF at SCC to count their credits toward a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education.

SCC is one of four Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) accredited programs in the Upstate to participate in this articulation. Read more
